Another Open Garden this year

After a year off last year, we have agreed to another Open Garden, in aid of Heartfelt House in Alstonville. This year there will be two McLeans Ridges gardens on show: ours and one off Camerons Road, on the last weekend in October.

So we are currently very busy getting the garden up to scratch. A rainforest garden like ours can never be perfectly tidy because of the constant rain of sticks and leaves, but there is no such excuse for the more open areas.

Here is a view of the house from the pool. The mauve Eupatorium will have finished flowering by the end of October, but other things will be out then.

More garden news:

Recently we poisoned the vine scrambling over the rock wall in the pool area. A s its leaves died, they turned a wonderful orangey-red. We expect it to shoot again quite quickly.

In January, the gingers were blooming. The yellow tall ones have now finished, but the reds are going on and on.

And the upside-down orchid is flowering. It is making up for last year's poor showing, by producing nine spikes, so it should remain spectacular for quite a while.

Nearly Christmas

No posts for a while.

We may be able to put off our move to town for a while, but eventually we realise we will have to go.

Meanwhile, here are a couple more photos. The first shows the entrance to one rainforest path, flanked by two birdsnest ferns.

The second shows the poinciana tree - a great shade tree in the lawn below the house.
